Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Praise my soul the King of heaven!

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven;

to his feet thy tribute bring.

Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,

evermore his praises sing.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Praise the everlasting King!

2 Praise him for his grace and favor

to his people in distress.

Praise him, still the same as ever,

slow to chide, and swift to bless.

Alleluia, alleluia!

Glorious in his faithfulness!

- Brethren (brothers and sisters), let us acknowledge our sins,

and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries.

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and

in what I have failed to do,

And, striking their breast, continue:

through my fault, through my fault,

through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

all the Angels and Saints,

and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord, our God.

The Liturgy of the Word

You can follow the Readings also in other languages:

First Reading

Exodus 19:2-6a

In those days, the Israelites came to the desert of Sinai and pitched camp.
While Israel was encamped here in front of the mountain,
Moses went up the mountain to God.
Then the LORD called to him and said,
“Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob;
tell the Israelites:
You have seen for yourselves how I treated the Egyptians
and how I bore you up on eagle wings
and brought you here to myself.
Therefore, if you hearken to my voice and keep my covenant,
you shall be my special possession,
dearer to me than all other people,
though all the earth is mine.
You shall be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy nation.”

- The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 100:1-2, 3, 5

R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

Sing joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;
   serve the LORD with gladness;
   come before him with joyful song.

R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

Know that the LORD is God;
   he made us, his we are;
   his people, the flock he tends.

R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

The LORD is good:
   his kindness endures forever,
   and his faithfulness to all generations.

R. We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

Second Reading

Romans 5:6-11

Brothers and sisters:
Christ, while we were still helpless,
yet died at the appointed time for the ungodly.
Indeed, only with difficulty does one die for a just person,
though perhaps for a good person
one might even find courage to die.
But God proves his love for us
in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us.
How much more then, since we are now justified by his blood,
will we be saved through him from the wrath.
Indeed, if, while we were enemies,
we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son,
how much more, once reconciled,
will we be saved by his life.
Not only that,
but we also boast of God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom we have now received reconciliation.

- The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

Alleluia

R.  Alleluia, Alleluia

The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent and believe in the Gospel.

R. Alleluia, Alleluia

Gospel

Matthew 9:36—10:8

- The Lord be with you.

And with your spirit.

- A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mattew.

Glory to you, O Lord.

At the sight of the crowds, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them
because they were troubled and abandoned,
like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.”

Then he summoned his twelve disciples
and gave them authority over unclean spirits
to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.
The names of the twelve apostles are these:
first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew;
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;
James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;
Simon from Cana, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus,
“Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’
Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons.
Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

- The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Creed

I believe in one God,

the Father almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven,

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of the Faithful

As we gather to celebrate the great gift of the Eucharist, we turn to God, the Father of mercies, and make our needs known to Him. Let us pray together to the Lord saying: Lord hear our prayer.

R. Lord hear our prayer.

1.In today’s gospel Jesus urges us to go seek the lost sheep. We pray that those who have been lost to our church,  whether through doubt, hurt, distraction, or the burdens of life,  may be inspired by your love, mercy and faithfulness to  recognise in you the true shepherd.

We pray to the Lord               R. Lord hear our prayer.

2. Jesus tells us the harvest is rich but the labourers are few.  We pray for recognition among all God’s people that we ourselves are called to be labourers for Christ.

We pray to the Lord               R. Lord hear our prayer.

3. We pray for all those in our church, men and women, ordained and lay, who have been called to the role of shepherd, that they may follow closely the example of Christ and bear witness to His truth and goodness.

We pray to the Lord               R. Lord hear our prayer.

4. We pray with Pope Leo that world leaders adopt policies which ensure that no one has to leave their home due to war, economic inequalities or the effects of climate change.

We pray to the Lord               R. Lord hear our prayer.

5. We bow our heads and remember in silence our own personal intentions and the intentions of those who have asked for our prayers

We pray to the Lord               R. Lord hear our prayer.

May our prayers be pleasing to you, Lord God, and may your mercy sustain us always. We make our prayers through Christ our Lord.

- Amen.

When we eat this bread

Refrain
When we eat this bread and drink this cup
We proclaim your death until you come.

Where two or three are gathered together in my name.
Where two or three are gathered together, there am I.
How blessed are they who are called to the banquet of the Lord.

The Communion Rite

- At the Saviour’s command and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,

thy will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

OR

Pater noster, qui es in cælis:

sanctificétur nomen tuum;

advéniat regnum tuum;

fiat volúntas tua,

sicut in cælo, et in terra.

Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;

et dimítte nobis débita nostra,

sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;

et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem;

sed líbera nos a malo.

- Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,

that, by the help of your mercy,

we may be always free from sin

and safe from all distress,

as we await the blessed hope

and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

- For the kingdom,

the power, and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

(Quia tuum est regnum,

et potéstas, et glória

in sǽcula.)

- Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:

Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,

look not on our sins,

but on the faith of your Church,

and graciously grant her peace and unity

in accordance with your will.

Who live and reign for ever and ever.

- Amen.

- The peace of the Lord be with you always. (Pax Dómini sit semper vobíscum.)

- And with your spirit. (Et cum spíritu tuo.)

Then, if appropriate, the Deacon, or the Priest, adds:

Let us offer each other the sign of peace.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

  have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

  have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,

  grant us peace.

OR

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccáta mundi:

  miserére nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccáta mundi:

  miserére nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccáta mundi:

  dona nobis pacem.

- Behold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takes away the sins of the world.

Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

- Lord, I am not worthy

that you should enter under my roof,

but only say the word

and my soul shall be healed.

OR

- Ecce Agnus Dei,

ecce qui tollit peccáta mundi.
Beáti qui ad cenam Agni vocáti sunt.

- Dómine, non sum dignus, ut intres

sub téctum meum:

sed tantum dic verbo,

et sanábitur ánima mea.

I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE

1 I am the bread of life.
You who come to me shall not hunger;
you who believe in me shall not thirst.
Refrain:
And I will raise you up, and I will raise you up,
and I will raise you up on the last day.

2 The bread that I will give
is my flesh for the life of the world,
and you who eat of this bread,
you shall live for ever.
R.

3 Unless you eat of the flesh of the Son of Man
and drink of his blood,
you shall not have life within you.
R.

4 I am the Resurrection, I am the life.
If you believe in me, even if you die,
you shall live for ever.
R.

5 Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ,
the Son of God,
Who has come into the world.
R.

The Concluding Rites

- The Lord be with you.

- And with your spirit.

The Priest blesses the people, saying:

May almighty God bless you,

the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.

- Amen.

Then the Deacon, or the Priest himself, dismisses the people with the following (or similar) words:

- Go forth, the Mass is ended.
- Thanks be to God.

O Mary, our mother

1 O Mary, our mother, to you do we come;
In all our afflictions, your love is our home.
Your heart is so gentle, so loving, so mild;
You will not reject any supplicant child.

2 O Mary, our mother, be gracious to all;
When burdened with sadness, to you do we call.
In sorrow, in darkness, O be at our side;
For you are our mother, our comfort and guide.
